Healthy deceleration: be more focused in life thanks to this meditation

More concentrated through life - meditation can do fascinating things
Our lives seem to be getting hectic and stressful. Many people therefore yearn for a certain deceleration. Meditation can do fascinating things here. For some people, the different techniques for relaxing are not suitable.

Meditation for stress relief
The world seems to be turning faster and faster. Not only in the job and at the university, one appointment follows the next, but also the free time is often packed with appointments for dinner, a visit to the cinema or to pursue hobbies. It is therefore not surprising that more and more people are longing for a break to escape the stress. According to studies, meditation can be effective in relieving stress. Prof. Dr. also knows that Peter Sedlmeier from the Chemnitz University of Technology. He wrote a book on the scientific foundations of meditation.

Switch off from everyday life
“Learning to meditate is not just a trend, it's also a good idea. Many people report positive effects on their health and well-being, ”said Peter Sedlmeier, professor for research methods and evaluation at the Institute of Psychology at Chemnitz University of Technology in a statement from the university.

Meditation thus stands as a collective name for different techniques that were and are components of all world religions - especially in Buddhism and Hinduism.

These techniques are a great way to switch off from everyday life. As Prof. Peter Sedlmeier said according to a recent news from the dpa news agency, people who can get involved and stick to it can expect a whole range of positive effects.

More balanced and emotionally stable
"According to numerous studies, people who meditate regularly become more balanced, more emotionally stable and better able to deal with feelings," says the expert, according to dpa.

This has an indirect effect on friendships and relationships, for example.

"However, many do not know what exactly you do, which forms of meditation exist and what meditation can do - and what cannot," said the psychologist in the university announcement.

Regularity is particularly important
In many meditation approaches, two techniques are practiced: on the one hand, to concentrate on something specific, such as your own breath, and on the other hand, to listen to what is going on in your own body, for example.

People who do this regularly can usually concentrate better, perceive their bodies more consciously and classify feelings well.

However, regularity is important here: "Better 15 minutes a day than once a week and an hour and a half," advises Sedlmeier in the dpa report.

Certain people are better off not meditating
In his opinion, meditation works better with a teacher and in a group. But it also motivates them to gain their own experience and to simply try meditating.

The only exception are people with severe mental illness.

In the communication from the TU Chemnitz, Sedlmeier explains: "Those who suffer from schizophrenia, for example, should avoid meditation techniques or only perform them under the close supervision of a therapist experienced in meditation." (Ad)
